DER OBERE DOME
Der obere Dome, der die Spielflächen beinhaltet, wird komplett durch Handarbeit hergestellt. Er hat einen Durchmesser von 58 – 60 cm, ein Gewicht von 4 Kilo und eine Höhe, die zwischen 13 und 20 cm variiert; abhängig von der Stimmung und der Anzahl der Töne. Der obere Dome besteht aus zwei Teilen , die durch ein spezielles Schweißverfahren verbunden sind und zur Reduzierung der metallischen Resonanzen abgedämmt wird. Dieser hochkomplizierte Prozess des Stimmens, Härtens, Schweißens, Dämpfens und Feinstimmens macht aus einer flachen Scheibe aus ausgewähltem Stahl ein Musikinstrument von höchster Qualität. Der obere Dome wird durch Drähte oder Seile oder Kordel mit dem unteren Dome verbunden; abhängig von der Charakteristik jedes einzelnen Instrumentes.
DER UNTERE DOME
Sowie der obere Dome wird auch der untere Dome komplett mit der Hand geschmiedet, um eine Form und eine Resonanz herzustellen, die absolut kompatibel und unterstützend zum oberen Dome ist. Er wiegt zwei Kilo und hat einen Durchmesser von 45 cm. Seine Aufgabe ist es, für Lautstärke und Fülle des Tones zu sorgen, ohne diesen klanglich zu ändern oder zu verfälschen. Der untere Dome funktioniert auch als Träger, um das Instrument auf dem Schoß zu spielen. In der Mitte ist ein 10mm Gewinde, um einen Fuß anbringen zu können und drei Löcher, um die Caisa an einen Bodenständer zu befestigen.

Generation präsentieren zu können. Die CAISA-A-GROUP; ein
zweiteiliges Set : die ANOMAR und die ARON . Sie sind in A-Dur
gestimmt und daher dafür prädestiniert, zusammen gespielt zu werden.
Die Caisa ANOMAR ist ein 13töniges Leadinstrument - ideal für Solo
und Akkordbegleitung. Die einzelnen Töne sind :
A, B(H), c#, d, e, f#, ab, a, b(h), c#², d², e² and f#².
Im Gegensatz zu der Standardcaisa befindet sich der tiefste Ton am
Rand und die drei höchsten Töne befinden sich in der Mitte.
Die ARON Caisa ist ein neuntöniges Instrument im tieferen Register,
das die Anomar mit Akkorden und Baritonläufen unterstützt.
Zusammen bilden sie eine eigene kleine Band.
Sie können natürlich auch mit allen Instrumenten wie Gitarre,
Akkordeon, Percussion und dem schönsten Instrument-der Stimme-
ergänzt werden.
Wie alle Caisas sind die beiden Instrumente auch dafür geeignet, um
allein zu spielen und sind perfekt für Meditation und Entspannung nach
einem harten Arbeitstag.

AUSSEHEN UND DESIGN
Die Caisa besitzt normalerweise zwischen neun und zwölf Tönen. Diese Töne sind auf einer konvexen Scheibe gruppiert. Die komplette Scheibe besitzt – wie ein Gong – seinen eigenen Ton, Obertöne und Resonanzen, die abhängig von der Tiefe und der Dicke des Metalls, variieren können. Dies kann oft einen negativen Einfluss auf die einzelnen Spielflächen haben. Dieser Effekt ist eine Dissonanz oder bestimmte Töne können komplett dadurch blockiert werden. Dieser Effekt, den man auch vom Steeldrum stimmen kennt, ist bei der Caisa wegen der geschlossenen Form noch extremer verstärkt. Die einfachste Möglichkeit wäre, nur eine Skala oder Notenreihe auf einer vorgepressten Form von festgelegter Höhe und Metallstärke anzubieten, wo man durch Erfahrung weiß, dass derartige Probleme nicht auftreten können. Wir sind allerdings mehr interessiert daran, dem Musiker ein Instrument anzubieten, das er oder sie braucht als uns das Leben einfacher zu machen. Aus diesem Grund, besonders wenn es um Kundenwünsche geht, kann das Aussehen von Caisa zu Caisa unterschiedlich ausfallen. Die Form und Platzierung der Spielflächen oder die Form von einer oder von beiden Domes können abgeändert werden, um die maximale Klangerzeugung zu verwirklichen. Dies wird natürlich, immer in professioneller Weise durchgeführt und in einer ästhetisch ansprechenden Art.
Die Farbe einer Standard-Caisa ist natürliches metallblau. Im Moment experimentieren wir mit Chrom, Nickel und anderer Metallveredelung, die nicht nur großartig aussehen sondern auch einen interessanten Effekt auf den Klang haben. Die Caisa wird mit einem farbigen Streifen um den äußeren Rand dekoriert. Zur Zeit bieten wir rot, gelb, grün, blau, orange, silber oder gold an. STIMMEN
Die Caisa wird ähnlich wie eine Steeldrum gestimmt; d.h. der Grundton, seine Oktave und weitere Obertöne , um die gewünschte Klangfarbe zu erreichen. Die Spielflächen sind anders geformt, um den perkussiven Charakter zu akzentuieren und um Höhen zu reduzieren, die man normalerweise bei einer Steeldrum findet und braucht. Außerdem ist der tiefste Ton besser in der Mitte platziert und nicht außen wie bei der Steeldrum. Es hängt damit zusammen, dass die Caisa keine Außenwand hat, die die tiefen Töne hervorheben könnte. Die in der Mitte platzierten tiefen Töne werden durch das gesamte Dome unterstützt sowie durch die umliegenden Töne und Obertöne.
Die tiefen Töne in der Mitte werden immer mit ihrer Oktav und ihre höherliegenden Quinte gestimmt. Die umliegenden Töne, der tiefste fängt normalerweise bei f bis bb an, werden auf die gleiche Art gestimmt. Von g ` bis h ’ bevorzugen wir es oft, eine Quarte als zweiten Oberton zu benutzen. Die höheren Töne über c ² tendieren dazu, weniger auf das Handspiel zu reagieren. Daher wird öfters eine zweite Oktav hinzugefügt, z B. C2 (Grundton) + C3 (Doppeloktav) + C4 (2te Oktav) falls notwendig. Die höheren Töne unterstützen und geben den tieferen Töne mehr Fülle.
SPIELEN
Die Caisa wird mit den Händen gespielt; vorzugsweise mit den Fingerspitzen in einem ähnlichen Stil wie man eine Tabla spielt. Man kann auch mit speziellen Sticks spielen ähnlich wie die Sticks einer Steeldrum.
Wie auch bei den Steeldrums kann durch zu grobes Spielen oder Spielen mit Schlagzeugstöcken bzw. ungeeigneten Gegenständen die Caisa verstimmt werden (s. NACHSTIMMEN ). Aus diesem Grund fügen wir zu jeder Caisa ein paar spezielle Schlegel bei, die perfekt konzipiert wurden, um die Stimmung des Instrumentes zu schonen.
Die Länge und das Gewicht der Sticks ist so designed, dass der Spieler mit ihnen maximales Volumen und Sound hervorholen kann und dabei die Töne spielen kann, die am nächsten an seinem Körper liegen, wenn man das Instrument auf dem Schoß spielt. Das Spielen mit den Sticks gibt der Caisa einen schärferen und knackigeren Klang für das Zusammenspiel mit anderen Instrumenten oder für einen Solopart.

Ebenfalls hat unsere kleine Baby caisa das Licht der Welt erblickt, mit einer Größe von 45cm (15cm tief) und einem Gewicht von 2,5kg kann es bereits in den Klängen von C-, F-, und Bb-Pentatonik tönen.
Perfekt zum reisen und für Kinder, oder Menschen, die körperlich nicht mehr ganz mobil und flexibel sind ist unser kleiner Schatz ganz anpassungsfähig.
Der Klang ist lieblicher und bedingt durch die Größe nicht ganz so voluminös. wie MamaCaisa, trotzdem hält es kräftig mit MamaCaisa mit und ist ein kleiner, liebevoller Begleiter in allen Lebenslagen.
Wir gehen gerne auf die besonderen Wünsche von Musikern ein. Wenn wir z. B. zur Standard Tuning C-Pentatonic ein B ( H ) hinzufügen, haben wir die Möglichkeit, in zwei verschiedenen Tonarten zu spielen (C – und G-Pentatonic). Durch ein zusätzliches F kann man noch dazu in F-Pentatonic spielen usw. Jeder zugefügte Ton erweitert die musikalischen Möglichkeiten. Es gibt zahlreiche arabische, asiatische und afrikanische Skalen, die wunderbar mit der Caisa harmonieren. Wenn es möglich ist, diese auf eine Caisa zu bringen, tun wir es !
NACHSTIMMEN
Deine Caisa ist vom Tisch gefallen und hat jetzt eine große Delle in der Mitte. Das ist der Zeitpunkt, dein abgegriffenes Exemplar von ` Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis ` herauszuholen und die Worte auf dem Umschlag zu lesen : KEINE PANIK!
Verpacke die Caisa gut und schicke sie zurück zu uns oder mach einen Termin und bring sie persönlich vorbei. Sie wird entweder gestimmt und am gleichen Tag wieder zurückgeschickt oder wir stimmen sie direkt nach , während du wartest. Das ist natürlich selbstverständlich. Ein Musiker braucht sein Instrument !
Versuch niemals, deine Caisa selbst nachzustimmen. Es wird dadurch noch schlimmer bzw. sogar irreparabel.
Vergesst nicht, dass das Steeldrumbauen eines der schwerst zu erlernenden Berufe der Welt ist. Wir bauen und stimmen diese Art von Instrumenten täglich seit 25 Jahren. THE UPPER DOME
The upper dome which incorporates the playing areas is built completely by hand. It has a diameter of 58 – 60cm, a weight of around 4 kilo and a height ranging from 13 – 20cm. depending on the tuning and number of notes. It is made up of two separate parts joined together using a special welding process and then acoustically dampened to reduce metallic
resonances. This highly complicated process of tuning, hardening, welding, dampening and fine tuning transforms a flat disc of selected steel into a high quality musical instrument. The upper dome is attached to the lower dome using wires, ropes or cords depending on the acoustical characteristics of each instrument.
THE LOWER DOME
As with the upper dome, the lower dome is completely hand hammered to produce a form and resonance which is absolutely compatible and complementary to the melody disc. It weighs around two kilos and has a diameter of 45cm. Its purpose is to amplify and enhance the characteristic of the upper dome without interfering or altering its tonal and resonating qualities. The lower dome also functions as a support for playing the Caisa on the lap. In the middle it has a 10mm thread for attaching a foot and three holes for connecting the Caisa to a floor stand.
APPEARANCE AND DESIGN
The Caisa normally contains between nine and twelve notes. These notes are grouped together on a single convex disc. The complete disc like a gong, also has its own note, harmonics and resonances which vary depending on the depth and thickness of the dome. These can and often do interfere with the actual playing surfaces. The effect can be a dischord or certain notes may be blocked completely. This effect, also experienced when tuning steel drums is greatly increased in the Caisa due to the closed nature of the instrument. The easiest solution would be to offer one scale or series of notes on a prepressed dome of a fixed height and thickness where experience has proved that no problems of this nature will be incurred. We are however more interested in providing the musician with the instrument he or she requires than making life easy for ourselves. For this reason, especially when dealing with custom made instruments, the appearance can vary from Caisa to Caisa. The shape and position of the playing surfaces or the form of one or both of the domes may be altered to achieve the maximum sound perfection possible. This will of course, always be done in a professional manner and one that is pleasing to the eye.
The basic colour of the Caisa is natural blue metal. At the moment we are trying out chome, nickel and other types of metal coatings which not only look great but also have an interesting effect on the sound. The Caisa is decorated with a coloured strip going around the outer rim. Right now we offer red, yellow green, blue, orange, silver or gold. We are proud to present a new addition to our new generation of Caisa,
the CAISA A-GROUP, a two piece set, the ANOMAR and the ARON tuned in
the key of A major and made to be played together.
The Caisa ANOMAR is a 13 note lead and rhythm instrument ideal for
solo and chord accompaniment. The individual notes are:
A, B(H), c#, d, e, f#, ab, a, b(h), c#², d², e² and f#².
Contrary to the standard Caisa, the lowest note is positioned on the
outer rim and the three highest notes are in the middle.
Backing up the ANOMAR with chords and baritone runs is the ARON a 9
note Caisa in a lower register. The notes are:
E, F#, Ab, A, B(H), c#, d, e and f#.
Together they make up their own little band.
They can, of course, be complemented by other instruments, guitar,
accordion, percussion and the most beautiful instrument of all, the
singing voice.
As with all our Caisa they are also made to be played on their own and
are perfect for meditation and relaxation after a hard days work.
TUNING
The Caisa is basically tuned in the same manner as a steel drum that is, the note, its octave and further harmonics to achieve the required timbre. The playing surfaces are however formed differently to accentuate their percussive nature and reduce sustain and treble that is normally found and required in a steel drum. Also the lowest notes, usually placed at the rim of a steel pan are better located in the centre. This has to do with the fact that the Caisa does not have the skirt of the steel drum which strengthens and amplifies the deeper notes. The low notes positioned in the middle, are supported by the complete disc and also by the complementary notes and harmonics from the playing surfaces surounding them.
The center notes are always tuned with their octave and a fifth. The surounding notes, the deepest usually starting between f and bb are tuned in the same way. From g’ to b’ we often prefer to use a forth.as second harmonic. The higher notes above c” which tend to respond less readily when played by hand are sometimes given an additional second octave e.g. C2 (note) + C3 (double octave) + C4 (2nd octave) if found to be required. The higher notes also support and give body to the lower notes.
PLAYING
The Caisa is played with the hands, preferably with the fingertips, in a style similar to playing the tabla or with special mallets similar to those used for playing the steel pan. Again, like the steel drum, too heavy handed playing or playing with drumsticks or other unsuitable objects can cause the Caisa to go out of tune (see `RETUNING ´). For this reason we include a pair of special mallets with every Caisa sold which are perfectly matched for playing and for protecting the tuning of the instrument. The length and weight is designed for maximal volume and sound and also for playing the notes nearest to the players body. They give a sharper sound when playing together with other instruments or playing a solo part.
The Caisa can be played in a variety of positions, for example:
Sitting in a crosslegged position with the Caisa on the lap.
In a sitting position using the Adjustable Floorstand (separately available) in a low position seated on a stool, drumseat or similar armless seat.
Using the Adjustable Floorstand (separately available) in a high position. This gives the possibility of moving around the drum while playing.

We are also happy to accommodate musicians with particular wishes. If, for example, we take the standard scale of C-Pentatonic, by adding a B we then have the possibility of playing in two different keys ( C and G pentatonic ). The addition of an F will then gives the key of F pentatonic and so on. Each note which is added increases the musical scope. There are a multitude of arabian, asian and african scales which function beautifully with the Caisa and ifit is possible to put them on the Caisa we’ll do it!
Now, for so far our little BabyCaisa has seen the light of the world, with a size of 45cm (15cm high), and a weight of 2,5kg. It can already sing in the sounds of C, F, and Bb-Pentatonic. Perfectly made for children, or ppl, who travel, and busk, also for humans, who have some mobile, and physical troubles, our little BabyCaisa is completely flexible with that.
The sound is lovelier, and because of its size not that voluminous, like MamaCaisa, nevertheless it keeps up strongly with MamaCaisa! That little toy is a small, affectionate companion in all situations in life.
RETUNING
Your Caisa has fallen off the table and there is a big dent in the middle. Now’s the time to take out your battered copy of the `Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy´and to read the words on the cover. DON’T PANIC! Pack it well and send it back to us or make an appointment and bring it round personally. It will either be retuned and returned on the same day or we can retune it while you wait. This is of course essential. Musicians need their instruments!
Don’t try to retune it yourself. You will only make it worse or maybe damage it irrepairably. Don’t forget that steel pan tuning is one of the most difficult professions to learn in the world. We have been building and tuning these kind of instruments day in, day out, for over 25 years.
